Christie’s Unveils SOURCE On NFTs Collection

World-renowned auction house Christie’s recently introduced their first on-chain generative art collection titled SOURCE (On NFTs) by crypto and NFT artist Robert Alice.

About the Collection

Christie’s described the works as a form of digital graffiti that reimagines the tradition of color field paintings popularized by abstract artists in the mid-nineteenth century. The collection celebrates the RGB color spectrum that defines digital art.

Unique Artistic Approach

The artworks symbolize the significance of blockchains as a new form of publishing and NFTs as creations rooted in text. Through the use of NLP algorithms, the pieces blend source texts to create innovative contemporary digital color field paintings.

Auction Details

The auction for SOURCE [On NFTs] by Robert Alice began at 11am EST with a Dutch Auction format. The starting price was 5 ETH, gradually decreasing until all 400 works are sold or the price reaches 0.3 ETH.

Artistic Inspiration

Robert Alice intentionally selected source material to unveil the cultural origins of NFTs. The artworks intertwine disparate histories, merging science fiction, digital art manifestos, cryptography whitepapers, and ancient Chinese philosophical texts.

On NFTs Book Release

Alice, known for his contributions to crypto art, also released a book titled On NFTs, featuring academic essays and artist profiles. Published by Taschen, the book explores blockchain-based art and the on-chain cultural ecosystem.

Works minted for 1.5 ETH or more at Christie’s will receive a special edition of On NFTs personally signed by Robert Alice.
