Recently, Gary Gensler, the Chair of the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), addressed the agency’s focus on the crypto industry. In a CNBC interview, he defended the attention given to crypto, highlighting the prevalence of scams and frauds within the sector.

Gensler’s Concerns

• Gensler emphasized that while crypto constitutes a small part of financial markets, it significantly contributes to issues like scams and frauds.
• He noted that the media amplifies coverage of crypto compared to traditional securities markets, creating a perception of the industry’s importance.
• The SEC has observed a surge in crypto-related enforcement actions, with 46 initiated last year.
