RSRV to Tokenize St. Regis Aspen Resort’s Equity on Tezos Blockchain
RSRV, a hotel ownership marketplace co-founded by Aspen-based entrepreneur Stephane De Baets, has announced a partnership with the Tezos blockchain to tokenize a portion of the equity in St. Regis Aspen Resort. This strategic move is supported by tZero Group, Elevated Returns, and Science Ventures, and it offers investors the opportunity to gain equity in the hotel while also providing the unique ability to exchange tokens for room stays.
Tokenization Project Details
Around 5% of the equity in St. Regis Aspen Resort is set to be tokenized, with the sale scheduled to take place in March 2024. After the sale, the tokens will become tradable on the tZero platform’s secondary market. RSRV has selected the Tezos network for this tokenization project due to its robust security, scalability, and energy efficiency.
Stephane De Baets expressed his excitement about the project, stating, “Adding this redemption utility feature to an equity position is something that we see big demand for. Besides locking room rates at perpetuity, you are also being recognized as an owner and can access various perks and benefits.”
Expert Insights on Asset Tokenization
Several notable figures from major financial institutions have weighed in on the potential of blockchain technology for asset tokenization. Larry Fink, CEO of BlackRock, has highlighted the prospect of driving efficiencies in capital markets, shortening value chains, and improving cost and access for investors through tokenization.
Additionally, Ralf Kubli, a board member of the Casper Association, mentioned that 2023 saw several debt tokenization initiatives, including Goldman Sachs Digital Asset Platform and HSBC’s introduction of the Orion platform. Both Goldman Sachs and HSBC have been exploring blockchain technology for various applications, such as trade finance and digital identity.
Eastdil Secured Managing Director Jeffrey Davis also shared insights, mentioning, “Over time, hotel owners may be able to use the RSRV platform as a form of alternative financing for real estate assets.” This signifies the potential for the RSRV platform to serve as an innovative option for real estate financing.
